About Helene
Helene is a Norwegian contemporary artist who works with photo-based, constructed visual compositions. She extracts details from photographs – fragments of light, textures, architecture and organic forms, and rebuilds them into new, independent motifs. The result is works that are in a hybrid field between photography, digital art and abstract visual art. Her works investigate how reality can be deconstructed and reassembled. Through layering, repetition, displacement and transformation, she creates visual spaces that are both recognizable and alien. The works invite a slow viewing, where the eye gradually discovers structures, rhythms and hidden connections. She often works in series, where each work is a variation on a visual theme – such as balance, fracture, symmetry, dissolution or movement. Her works work strongly both in large formats and as smaller, intimate compositions.
Work process
Helene's process begins with photographic details that are detached from their original context. These fragments are digitally processed and assembled into new structures that are no longer documentation of reality, but visual constructions with their own identity. She works intuitively and analytically at the same time:
-
Intuitive in the choice of fragments and composition
-
Analytical in rhythm, balance, contrast and structure
This combination gives the works a distinctive visual energy – a mixture of precision and spontaneity.
Topics
Through her work, Helene explores:
-
Fragmentation and reconstruction - how reality can be broken down and rebuilt in new forms
-
The space between photography and art - what happens when photography loses its documentary function and becomes raw material for something new
-
Abstraction and recognition - how the eye searches for patterns, space and meaning in what at first seems abstract
-
Visual rhythm - through repetition, mirroring and displacement, a musical quality emerges in the images
Technique
Helene's works are digital compositions based on photographic elements. She works with:
-
Digital montages
-
Layering and texture building
-
Manipulation of light and form
-
Abstraction of concrete details
-
Large prints in high resolution
All works are produced as limited editions, signed and numbered.
